Positive Changes

Positive Changes - Teen Fatherhood Program

OVERVIEW

This program is presenting a need of servicing teenage boys who will become or are Fathers while still attending grade school.  The intent is to help them become more confident and responsible in their new way of living.  These teenage adolescents are enrolled in school or possibly attending groups at Neighborhood Centers.  download a program brochure

PROGRAM CONTENT

Teenage dads are caught in the dilemma of having a child without possibly having a father around to show them how to be a father.  They are experiencing raising a child with no clue of what to do.  Added to the fact that they are at-risk themselves of possibly dropping out of school, having more than one child and not able to contribute financially and emotionally with support.  This program will provide the opportunity for the teenage adolescent to hear from fathers and grandfathers by receiving information from men who’ve been there and able to ask questions on how to juggle an adolescent and an adult world.

THE GOALS OF THE PROGRAM:
1        Not having babies in the near future.
2.      Graduating from high school.
3.      Establish a healthy relationship with their child and the child’s mother.
4.      Attending a higher education institution.
5.      Making decisions that will help them to become confident, responsible and successful Fathers.

The program is for 20 to 40 teen participants per month.  The sessions will be two to four days per month with up to 10 teens per session.  Each month all teens will meet to participate in a monthly trip.  The trips consist of visiting venues that will lift the spirits of the teens such as sporting events or cultural outings.  There will also be trips for experiencing events that are suitable for the teens to take their children.

The aim is to have “Positive Changes” for the teenage dads to stop having children until they are in their later years, complete high school, visit their children more often, show them the benefits of attending higher education after graduating from high school and to address obstacles that are blocking their path.  Call James B Wingo at 216.631.5800, ext 116 for more information.
