The National Children's Study is the largest long term study of children's health and development ever conducted in the United States. The National Children's Study is the largest long-term study of children's health ever in the United States.  It is a study of 100,000 children across the US. Cuyahoga County was selected as a location to enroll families to participate.  The study will look at how children's health is affected by a number of factors, including family health history, and the places where children live, learn and play.  The study is designed to help us learn more than we've ever known about how the environment affects children's health and development.

Study participants will have periodic appointments or interviews. conducted by local study team members, before and during a woman's pregnancy, and as the child grows up.  Information will be collected from the participant and their environment from time to time over the course of several years.  Being a part of the study does not substitute for routine visits to the doctor.  The study does not involve taking any medications or treatments.

The study depends on local community involvement and family participation.  Families may receive a letter in the mail and someone from the study may knock on their door.  Or families may hear about the study elseware in their community.  Families are encouraged to take 5 minutes to answer questions if a study representative visits their home.  Families can also call the Study Center at 888.506.8541 to learn more or visit http://NationalChildrensStudy.gov for more information.
