About our training

K.E.Y.S. (Keep Empowering Your Self), provided by Key Source Pro Se Consulting & Training, is a literacy program that delivers tips and strategies for pro se and indigent litigants to have equal and affordable access to the justice.  The program provides the K.E.Y.S. (guidance)  to help eliminate barriers criminal history may cause to housing; employment; education and business.

Participants receive step-by-step instruction on how to eliminate barriers to: employment; housing and education by learning self-manage the preliminary matters of uncontested civil matters.  The program further supports participants with administrative and judicial strategic planning; forms development; filing instructions; and courthouse navigation/ courtroom etiquette coaching along the way.   The workshops provide information and practical application to self-manage: Child Support Arrearages; Expungement Application Process; Establish Legal Rights to Parenting Time; and The Power of Agreement - Mediation vs. Litigation.

Fatherhood Mission

Since its’ inception, Key Source has recognized the importance of fatherhood as a motivator and change agent.   Key Source believes that taking ownership of one’s responsibility as a father, coupled with effective communication will foster close connections between fathers and their children.  The goal of helping break poverty cycles related to fatherless, single parent homes could be achieved by the elimination of system induced counter-productivity.    Our program is unique in that it provides a direct link between the role of a responsible father in the lives of his children and the steps he needs to take by mediating shared parenting agreement strategies that will allow him to become more nurturing and responsible as a caretaker of his children.

Child Support

Fathers need work opportunities in order to have the means to support their children.  Custodial and Non-custodial parents who connect to their children, first emotionally, and then financially, have a stronger job retention and stronger motivation to make a difference in their children’s lives.  The K.E.Y.S. program helps non-custodial parents understand and navigate the child support system by facilitating workshops and trainings to explain their rights and responsibilities as non-custodial parents.   Key Source also works as a mediator between the Obligor (typically the absent parent) and the Child Support Agencies to balance orders that are often in arrears.   By agreement, custodial and non-custodial parents complete the necessary forms to reconcile their arrearages with livable wage jobs and keep current on their child support payments where possible.  Much more work needs to be done to fix systems that often work counter-productively.

Key Source History and Funding

K.E.Y.S. fatherhood program have been part of our curriculum since 2004.  It was selected in 2006 by the W.E.C.O. Foundation to receive a Small Business Enterprise MicroLoan to strengthen it’s community endeavor.  In 2007, it received a generous support from the private foundations which has allowed the program to serve over 1,800 fathers through our program.
