Fit 2-B FATHERS
Fit 2-B FATHERS (F2BF) is an educational program in which research-based information about inmate education and parenting education have been combined with the author's personal experiences to create a social and parenting skills curriculum for incarcerated males. This curriculum is intended for practitioners who educate males that are either incarcerated, sentenced to an alternative to incarceration, or participating in other forms of community-transition programming. The short term impact of this program is that participants will increase their knowledge, skills, attitudes, and aspirations about being men and fathers. The intermediate outcomes that can result from these are for participants to exhibit better parenting and social behaviors (e.g. healthy relations with their children and positive interactions with others: family, friends and co-workers). Participants who apply these can successfully bond to their children and family during the remainder of their incarceration and following release, leading to the longt term impact: a reduced rate of recidivism.
Fitness for Fatherhood
Fit 2-B FATHERS is intended to improve the physical, practical, and social fitness of participants, hence, the title, Fit 2-B FATHERS.
Physical Fitness- A physically fit father has the strength to perform the duties of fatherhood and to keep up with his children.
Practical Fitness- Becoming practically fit for fatherhood is the main component of F2BF.
Social Fitness- Having the ability to relate to people of all ages is the means for appropriately and purposefully interacting with children and other adults.
